Similar facilities planned in other areas
HYDERABAD: The work on a facility promising infrastructure appropriate for promotion of different sports activities at Katedan has been put into process.
As part of the proposal mooted sometime back by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), the work has been taken up on setting up a sports complex at Katedan providing appropriate facility in these parts of the city which woefully lack the same.
The HMDA had proposed taking up mini-stadia in the surrounding municipalities of the erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) area to promote sports and recreational activities and it was decided to start the process with a sports complex set up at Katedan. This is to be the initial move and similar facilities are to come up in other locations.
According to the officials, the sports complex at Katedan has been taken up with an estimated cost of around Rs.7 crore with a host of sporting facilities. Those to form part of the complex are facilities such as basketball court, handball court, tennis court, kabbadi court apart from an indoor stadium.
Meanwhile, the HMDA is said to be working keenly on restructuring its financial status in the backdrop of loan to the tune of Rs.700 crore from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).
A financially beleaguered Authority has decided to use the funds mostly to clear off earlier debts and use the rest for some of the ongoing projects. “The HUDCO loans coming at a lower interest rate and longer repayment term offers us some breathing space and help us in restructuring,” the official said.
While there are some ongoing projects such as imparting finishing touches to the P.V. Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway, flyover at Madhapur and the RoB at spinal road connecting Kukatpally with Hitec City, some others remained as proposals only.
