The Group of Ministers on Kolleru constituted by the State government will meet in Hyderabad on Friday. The meeting is expected to deliberate on the claims of Congress MP Kavuri Sambhasiva Rao from Eluru and the TDP MLA Jayamangala Venkataramana of Kaikaluru over the alleged goof-up by the official machinery in demolition of fishponds during the Operation Kolleru programme in 2006. Mr. Rao and Mr. Ramana will attend the meeting in their capacity as special invitees to present their view points in an obvious bid to buttress their demand. The two elected representatives contend that the fishponds on an extent of over 7,500 acres located outside the plus five contour of the lake in the two mandals of Mandavalli and Kaikaluru mandals of the Krishna district were `illegally’ demolished by the official machinery while demanding redemption of the same lands to the `losers’. The authorities of the Forest, the Revenue and the Irrigation departments are reportedly getting ready with their own versions on the issue for presentation at the high-level meeting. The meeting is also likely to take up the demand for downsizing the wildlife sanctuary from the +5 to +3 contours. It is the second time the group is holding a sitting after its maiden meeting in December last.
