HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has dismissed the criminal appeal filed by A. Venkateswara Rao, formerly head clerk in the office of Ongole Commercial Tax Officer, and confirmed the order of conviction passed by the trial court.

A press release issued by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) here on Wednesday said the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Nellore, had convicted Rao and sentenced him to one year’s rigorous imprisonment and pay of a fine of Rs.1,000 each under Section 7, 13(2) read with 13(1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Rao was trapped by ACB officials on October 6, 1995, when he accepted a bribe of Rs.400 for processing the complainant’s application relating to issue of registration certificate and getting permission from CTO-II, Ongole, and sending it to the Additional ACTO-III.
