Additional forces sent to sensitive mandals
Even as a sort of tense atmosphere is prevailing in the Visakha Agency following the death of a key leader of the CPI (Maoist) Kishanji in West Bengal on Thursday, Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju participated in programmes at Munchingput and Pedabayalu under a heavy security cover on Friday.
More CRPF personnel were despatched to provide security cover.
The police are taking no chance following the death of Kishanji, considered No. 3 in Maoist party's hierarchy and who was also connected to the Andhra-Orissa border area though long time ago.
Additional forces were sent to every Agency mandal and vehicles and people crossing the border with Orissa were being checked even as the ongoing combing operation was intensified.
Security at the police stations in the sensitive areas has been beefed up.
All efforts were being made to thwart any retaliatory action by the Maoists.
Those on the Maoists' hit list were asked to convey to the police their movements and were advised not to visit Maoist strong-holds.
Police are on high alert also due to the week-long celebrations the Maoist party would observe from December 2 to mark the formation of People's Local Guerrilla Army. People in Agency area are apprehensive that the Maoists would resort to violence during the PLGA after the party had lost Kishanji.
