Additional forces deployed
With the Central intelligence agencies reportedly cautioning Andhra Pradesh government with regard to a possible terror strike in the State, the temple of Lord Venkateswara which is already on the radar screen of the militant outfits, has been put on a high alert.
No sooner the alert message was received, policing in the twin towns of Tirumala and Tirupati was stepped-up policing. Security was tightened at the Alipiri checking point at Tirupati – the gateway to the temple of Lord Venkateswara. Pilgrims were asked to alight their vehicles and undergo a thorough security frisking while their bags were scrupulously scanned.
Meanwhile, additional forces were deployed in front of the main temple complex and there was visibly an increased security vigil in the precincts. Pilgrims entering the massive Vaikuntam queue complexes for the darshan of the presiding deity were also thoroughly checked. Special parties were deployed at all the vital points and at the places of huge congregations of the devotees like Nitya Anna danam complex, Kalyanakatta and the bus station.
