Proposals had been submitted to the government for sanction of Rs 111 crore towards compensation to the drought-hit farmers of the district, said Collector Siddharth Jain here on Thursday.
The district had recorded 805 mm rainfall as against the average rainfall of 1027 mm, he pointed out saying that crops in two lakh hectares were damaged due to the dry spell. Compensation to the tune of Rs 80.35 crore had already been disbursed to the farmers who suffered crop losses due to heavy rains and cyclonic storms at the fag end of 2010. Crop loans of Rs. 885 crore had been sanctioned to 2.18 lakh farmers in the current fiscal. This apart, crop loans to of Rs 15 crore had been provided to 9000 tenant farmers. He said 37,000 tonnes of paddy worth Rs. 38 crore had been procured from farmers till January 20. Godowns were being constructed at Chintur, Charla, Yedugurallapalli, Morampalli Banjara, and V R Puram at a cost of Rs 1.37 crore.
