ELURU: Dasari Pradeep Kumar, son of a city-based cobbler who secured a seat in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai, by standing 174 in the merit list of the all-India entrance test, was moved on receiving assistance from a large number of philanthropists from across the country.
The donors sent a sum of Rs 1.73 lakh in the form of cheques and demand drafts that were credited into the account of “IIT-Merit Assistance” opened by the district administration in favour of the boy at the State Bank India here in July. District Collector G. Jayalakshmi on Saturday handed over the amount to the boy in the form of fixed deposit (FD) certificates.
Around 60 philanthropists chipped in with assistance for the boy. The boy’s father, Divi Raju, thanked all the good Samaritans for their help.
