Several leaders trying to field their spouses for the top job

WARANGAL: With the suspense on the reservation of Zilla Parishad chairperson post cleared, hectic lobbying is on within the political parties for the top post.

Comparatively the competition is less as none of the political parties have enough number of capable candidates.

However, new faces may make their appearance with the leaders trying to field their better halves for the plum post in the district.

50 ZPTC posts

The Warangal district Zilla Parishad has 50 ZPTCs - which are reserved as follows - SC 9 (including 3 women); ST - 8 (3); BC - 19 (7); OC - 13 (4).

The ST women have eight seats to contest including three reserved exclusively for them. They can also contest from the general seats elsewhere.

For the coveted Mulug ZPTC post, which is being represented by MLA Podem Veeraiah who belongs to the ST category and where the tribal population is more, the competition is intense.

Former MLA and Telugu Desam MP and presently with the TRS Chandulal is trying to field his wife while another leader Danasari Anasuya who lost to Podem Veeraiah in the last Assembly elections is also trying to enter the fray.

Meanwhile, TDP leader Satyavathi Rathore who lost to Redya Naik in the past contesting from the Dornakal Assembly constituency is ready for the fight and she reportedly has the support of party senior Kadiam Srihari.

TD aspirant

Another TRS women's wing leader Bhukya Bharati is confident that Warangal MP Ravindra Naik and Congress MLA and Social Welfare Minister D. S. Redya Naik will support her candidature for the ZP chairpersonship.

Senior academic of Kakatiya University A. Sitaram Naik who had tried for the ticket in the last Assembly, desires to field his wife Sharada.

Last but not least, the BJP does not have any candidates for the post, but in all likelihood it will join hands with the TRS and help it secure ZP vice chairmanship in case it is denied the chairpersonship by the Congress.

This will help the BJP get closer to the TRS and its cadre in the district.
