MLA favours local man for heading newly set up Rayalaseema University

University has teething problems like land acquisition and starting innovative courses

State Council of Higher Education understood to have shortlisted names for V-C post

KURNOOL: Hectic lobbying is on for the postof Vice-Chancellor for the newly set up Rayalaseema University here.

While a dozen senior professors and academicians approached the government and the State Council of Higher Education with bio-datas, the local MLAs made a formal request to the government for appointment of a local man as V-C of the university. Kodumur MLA M. Sikhamani, in whose constituency the university falls, told The Hindu that the university for Kurnool was inordinately delayed due to various reasons. To make up for the delay a local man should be posted as Vice-Chancellor for the fast development of the institution, he added.

He said the university had some teething problems like land acquisition and starting of innovative courses.

Only an educationist with a vision would take advantage of the delay and try to shape it into a modern university.

Meanwhile, the State Council of Higher Education was understood to have shortlisted names for the post.

Probable names

Prof. Umasankar, present special officer, Y. Krishna Reddy, Y. Venkatrami Reddy, Registrar of SV University, K. Ramakrishna Reddy, Prof Ranga Reddy, P.L. Srinivasa Reddy, Jayaraj and Phillips figured as the probables.

The Vice-Chancellor for SK University would also be posted along with the head for Rayalaseema University. Various permutations and combinations like community roaster, academic track record, administrative experience were being taken into consideration.
