The Musheerabad police on Friday registered a criminal case against Secunderabad Cantonment MLA P. Shankar Rao for allegedly assaulting policemen who had served notice on him in the Green Fields colony case.

Neredmet Inspector P. Srinivas, who led a police party to Mr. Rao’s house in Zamisthanpur of Musheerabad, lodged the complaint at around midnight on Thursday, stating that the MLA threatened the policemen and refused to cooperate with them.

“He abused and threatened to kill us. The MLA even pushed aside some of the policemen,” Mr. Srinivas stated in the complaint. Based on this, the Musheerabad police invoked sections 353 (assaulting or using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code against the MLA.

Meanwhile, Malkajgiri DCP V. Siva Kumar reiterated that the police visit to the MLA’s house was part of the investigation and had no plans to arrest him. The investigation would resume once Mr. Rao regained his health, Mr. Siva Kumar said.
