HYDERABAD: A division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice A.R.Dave and Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy on Wednesday directed the District Collector of Vishakhapatnam and the Commissioner of the Greater Vishakha Municipal Corporation to ensure that no further construction activity was taken up in the prime land of more than 2,000 square yards in Ward No. 21, Waltair.

These interim orders were passed in a writ petition filed by N.Jayakumar. The petitioner said that the District Collector and the Municipal Commissioner, on an earlier occasion had reported that the receipts of tax payments and property assessment records shown by persons claiming regularization were not genuine. He lamented that the government had gone ahead and issued orders regularizing these lands under the ULC Act. He said that the GO must be set aside. The Bench had ordered notices and stayed construction activity on November 6. On Thursday the Bench was informed that the service of notices could not be effected. Then the Bench adjourned the matter by two weeks and directed these two officers to ensure that construction activity was stopped.
