VIJAYAWADA: Three long-distance trains had an unexpected halt for three to four hours at Vijayawada railway station on Wednesday due to a bandh call given by the Joint Action Committee for Separate Telangana in all the Telangana districts.

Thiruvanantapuram-New Delhi Kerala Express was on the platform here for three hours, while Howrah-Hyderabad East Coast Express train was halted for four hours. Similarly, the officials stopped Visakhapatnam-Shiridi Special Express train for two-and-a-half hours, as the tracks were not getting cleared. As a result of the bandh call, many trains were stopped by the activists on the tracks in Telangana districts and the trains passed through Hyderabad were stopped at several stations.

Since the APSRTC cancelled all the bus services towards Telangana districts, people were forced to depend on trains. Trains going towards Chennai and Visakhapatnam, however, moved as usual.
