Power supply stopped for several hours; billboards, hoardings collapse

KURNOOL: Hailstorm, accompanied by high velocity winds, played havoc in the city for more than an hour on Thursday.

The gales pulled down hoardings, uprooted scores of trees and tree branches and disrupted power supply. The gales, which started around 4.30 p.m., pounded the city for an hour with frightening noises.

Billboards and hoardings collapsed at Five Road Junction, New Bus Stand, Raj Vihar Centre and other places.

No casualties

Trees and tree branches were found scattered on the main roads and streets after the hailstorm subsided. However, no casualties were reported. At the General Hospital, a huge neem tree got uprooted. At HDCT hospital complex, a huge hoarding fell on the electric wires causing disruption in power supply. The supply was switched off for several hours to carry out the repairs.

People terrified

Those who came onto the streets were terrified by the weather turning violent suddenly.
