TIRUPATI: Girijana Vidyarthi Samakhya (GVS) members led by its State president V. Sankar Nayak, who visited the SC, ST and BC Hostel for girls being run here by the Social Welfare Department, have strongly deplored its bad upkeep and over-crowding. Against its capacity of 100 boarders there are as many as 199 girls, Nayak said. Compounding the problem further, even boarders belonging to the students-managed BC hostel for women were shifted there.

Quoting inmates, the GVS said in a statement that because of over-crowding they were finding it extremely difficult to study, eat, sleep and even to complete their daily ablutions. It called upon the government to construct without any more delay the new premises for the students-managed BC hostel for girls for which sanction was reportedly already accorded.
