Key stakeholders will benefit through database

ICLEI-South Asia and British High Commission will support GVMC in undertaking the project

Energy and energy efficiency measures will be integrated

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with ICLEI-South Asia and British High Commission for undertaking a study on carbon emission in the city.

ICLEI (local governments for sustainability) is an international association of local governments and national and regional local government organisations that have made a commitment to sustainable development.

The MoU was signed between Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao, GVMC Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena, ICLEI South Asia consultant G. Srinivasa Rao and others on Friday.

Joint operation

A cross functional team of ICLEI-South Asia and GVMC will work on identification and collection of data to be analysed for the energy status report of the carbon emission inventory of the city.

From ICLEI, it’s Project Officer (Energy and Environment) Kamlesh Pathak and Executive Director Emani Kumar interacted with the Municipal corporation officials.

ICLEI South Asia in collaboration with British High Commission initiated the project to reduce carbon emissions and achieve high energy efficiency through city-level local action plan by integrating renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.

Under the project, the citizens and key stakeholders will benefit through database on energy consumption, carbon emission inventory and city-level climate protection policy for implementing the action plan for reducing carbon emissions.
