Thousands of Sikhs in new clothes, covered their heads and bowed in respect at the Gurudwara to listen to the Guru Granth Sahib being narrated by the Granthis.

The 543{+r}{+d}birth anniversary of Guru Nanak was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at the Gurudwara here. It was an exhilarating experience to watch the Sikh community members volunteer to supply water to visitors, lend a helping hand to the elderly, cooking, serving food with love, clean the dirty dishes and maintain the shoe rack at the entrance.

The festival is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of the founder of the Sikh religion Guru Nanak Devji. Many Hindus also visit the Gurudwara and everybody irrespective of the religion, age and class is treated at par, said secretary of Gurudwara Balvinder Singh.

“Guru Nanak Devji fought to eradicate caste divisions and superstitions and we don’t follow any muhurats for any occasion. Guru Nanak Devji treated everybody on par and we follow it religiously,” he explained.
