Congress MP from Kadapa Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy's third leg of ‘Odarpu yatra' from Itchapuram town in the district on Thursday saw him avoiding any reference to controversial issues.
Mr. Reddy's much publicised tour witnessed moderate crowds that turned up to greet him at the Itchapuram railway station and other places. He reached Itchapuram by Falaknuma Express in the early hours and resumed the yatra from ‘Praja Prasthana Vijaya Vatika', the venue from where his later father and former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy concluded his historic padayatra seven years ago.
After paying floral tributes to the portrait of YSR on the occasion of 61st birth anniversary, Mr. Jagan imitated his father's mannerism by waving to the waiting crowd and shook hands with them.
During his speeches, he said: “My father is still alive in the hearts of every one. I am not alone since he has given me a big family. I am being treated like a brother and son by every person. I can't forget their affection.” As part of his yatra, Mr.Jagan consoled families of Pila Chandramma, Reddi Appanna, P.Ganapati and others who died after hearing news of YSR's death. He spent around 20 minutes with the family of Chandramma at Loddaputti (Itchapuram Mandal). She died in the Panchayat office soon after she was told about YSR's demise. “My mother went to the Panchayat office to collect the pension. Locals told her that she would not get pension hereafter as YSR was no more. Immediately, she collapsed and died,” said Mr. P. Rangaiah, resident of Laddaputti village. Mr. Jagan also visited Kaviti, Kesarapada and Sompeta. He will resume the yatra from Tekkali on Friday and cover various places, including Tekkali, Narasannapeta, Gara and Srikakulam.
He will tour East Godavari district for eight days from July 11.
