Renuka Chowdhury flags off a rally of cultural troupes and tribal dancers

    KHAMMAM: The `Stambhadri Sambaralu' - Khammam festival -- was off to a colourful start here on Thursday. Union Minister of State for Woman and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury flagged off a rally of cultural troupes and tribal dancers thus marking the inauguration of the festival. Inching forward to the drumbeats, the cultural troupes stole the show in the town. People took part in large numbers in the rally.

    Addressing the rally, Mrs. Chowdhury said a phase of rapid development was ushered in the district. She said the festival would be organised in a much bigger way next year by ensuring the participation of artistes from different states. Khammam Collector Sashibushan Kumar said in his address that about 550 artistes from different districts were taking part in the festival.

    He hoped that the festival would help showcase the development achieved in the district besides enhancing the tourism potential.

    Zilla Parishad Chairperson G. Vijayalakshmi, Kothagudem MLA Vanama Venkateswar Rao, Khammam MLA Thammineni Veerabhadram, Khammam Joint Collector Solmon Orokia Raj, and ITDA Project Officer Jyothi Budha Prakash were among those who took part. Later the Minister inaugurated the horticulture show organised in the pavilion ground as part of the festival.
