The Zilla Parishad meeting witnessed heated arguments within the treasury benches leading to walkout by ruling Congress party legislators here on Saturday.
The ZP General Body Meeting was presided over by Chairman M. Balaiah and attended by Congress MLAs -- Ch. Muthyam Reddy and P. Kishta Reddy.
After discussing subjects like agriculture and National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), the meeting took up discussion on Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF). When the Chairman proposed for approval of alternate sanctions, Mr. Muthyam Reddy objected alleging that funds were being spent without prior approval from the standing committee. He alleged that the money was being siphoned off by ZP Chairman and members. He was backed by his colleague Mr. Kishta Reddy.
“I much worried about corruption that is taking place in the Zilla Parishad and not bothered whether it is the ruling party or opposition which is responsible,” he said. Even as the MLA was putting across his point, Mr. Balaiah sought the approval for the works which was endorsed by majority members. Irate over this, Mr. Muthyam Reddy walked out of the meeting.
Mr. Kishta Reddy also expressed serious objection over the behaviour of the members in the house and staged a walkout.
