Finance and public works committees to be constituted during next board meeting
HYDERABAD: P. Gowri Shankar, the Congress member from ward V of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has been elected the board's vice-president on Wednesday. One Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and two Congress members supported him.
Surprisingly, former vice-president Jampanna Pratap, who was in the race for the post, proposed Gowri Shankar's name. Another Congress ward member P. N. Madhukar and TDP member T. Venkat Rao supported Gowri Shankar, out of the seven ward members at a board meeting held at SCB office here. Andhra sub-area commander and SCB president Brigadier D.S.C. Varma presided over the first board meeting conducted after results of SCB polls were announced on August 7. Ward members E. Manjula Reddy and B. Prabhakar, both from Telangana Rashtra Samiti and B. Laxman from Bharatiya Janata Party were also present. Mr. Varma earlier administered oath to all the members.
SCB executive officer T. Arokianathan said the finance and public works committees would be constituted during the next board meeting to be held in September.
Each committee comprises four elected members and three army officials. A gazette notification would be issued from New Delhi soon, he said.
