HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has appealed to people not to take the trouble of sending him expensive greeting cards, garlands, bouquets, sweet packets and expressed the desire to usher in 2006 without pomp.

Extending New Year greetings to people and NRIs, Dr. Reddy said that he would be launching the first rubber dam in Asia, Jhanjavathi Jaladhara, and dedicate it to the nation on Sunday. Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde, in his greetings, said: "The resolve to make our State a progressive, prosperous, morally and materially sound unit of the nation, contributing magnificently to its advance will need to be renewed. Let the New Year begin with this noble resolution", he stated.

In his message, TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu wished that the people would live happily in peace and amity. He said everyone should strive for the State's all-round development.
