HYDERABAD: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Saturday expressed grief and sorrow over the death of former Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Mr. Narasimhan described Shekhawat as a visionary and vibrant public-spirited leader who had the rare distinction of being the Chief Minister of Rajasthan three times. “His six decades of political career in the service of the nation will be long remembered,” he said.

Mr. Rosaiah said the nation had lost a veteran leader, Parliamentarian and senior politician. He recalled the late leader's services in different capacities and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, BJP president G. Kishan Reddy and Lok Satta Party leaders K.Srinivasa Rao and V. Laxman Balaji also condoled the death. Mr. Kishan Reddy and LSP leaders recalled Shekhawat's pioneering efforts in launching the ‘Antyodaya' scheme for the poor.
