The Loyola colleges all over the country stand for discipline, obedience and feeling for fellow human beings and those who study in them are considered “intellectuals” by students of other colleges, said Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.

The Governor inaugurated the diamond jubilee celebrations at the 59{+t}{+h}College Day of the Andhra Loyola College (ALC) here on Wednesday.

Speaking in Telugu the Governor said that he felt honoured for being invited to participate in a programme in Loyola College and recalled his student days. Mr. Narasimhan said that he studied in Vivekananda College and then shifted to the Presidency College. The students of Vivekananda College were called “sadhus” by students of other colleges and those of Presidency College were called “princes”, but the students of Loyola College were called “intellectuals”.

The Governor said that education was “character building” and value education was very important. “Life without values is waste. But that does not mean we should have hundreds of values. Have two or three core values and stick to them,” he said and added that “personal and professional integrity” was the most important value to him.

The Governor said that there was nothing wrong with students having fun. “Boys and girls can have fun, but you must know how to respect girl. If you do not respect women you are unfit to be called human,” the Governor said.
