Students Federation of India members burnt an effigy of the Kiran Kumar Reddy government on Thursday demanding release of funds for fee reimbursement and pending scholarshipsto enable their drawal by students in ATMs.

Accusing the government of being non-committal and negligent on releasing funds for fees reimbursement and scholarships, SFI district president G. Srinivas and secretary N. Sivaram said several agitations by students fell on deaf ears.

The government was to release about Rs. 3 crore pending with the Treasury.

Though officials were showing records that funds were released, none of the students could draw them using the ATM cards issued to them, they said. The SFI leaders charged the officials with adopting dilatory tactics on verification of certificates of students.

They urged the Government to initiate steps to ensure that students got the stipulated money through ATMs. SFI district vice-president Subbarayudu, joint secretary Amar and leaders Obulesu, Jeevan and Subba Reddy and girl students participated.
