Anantapur: Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers organised a rally in the city in support of their demands, including putting a halt to the bogus ration cards weeding out programme and also the removal of the so-called fake beneficiaries list.

State CPI (M) leader Y.Venkateshwara Rao alleged that the government, instead of weeding out the bogus names in the beneficiaries list, was actually weeding out genuine existing beneficiaries and creating commotion in the poor.

The CPI (M) leaders and activists maintained that the government is doing more harm to the poor than helping them.

The rally, which passed through the main thoroughfares of the city, blocked vehicular movement.

Police arrested some of the workers and leaders and later released them. District CPI (M) general secretary Obulakonda Reddy and Rambhoopal were also present.
