Minister for Major Irrigation P. Sudarshan Reddy said that the government is prepared to release water from the Nagarjunasagar and the Sriramsagar reservoirs provided the farmers informed how they planned to utilise water in rabi season.

Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, the Minister said that in Nagarjunasagar, 28 tmcft water would remain after sparing water for drinking purposes and it would be apportioned among the left and right canals equally. An equal amount of water from SRSP would be given to Lakshmi and Kakatiya canals to Adilabad, and Karimnagar and Warangal respectively.

Water available in Ramadugu and Pocharam medium irrigation projects would be utilised for the needs of the farming community in the district, he said while urging farmers to sow ID crops in view of the scarcity of water. Mr. Sudarshan Reddy said that if the farmers, elected representatives, farmer associations, water users’ associations and Collectors together made proposals with regard to the timing for the release and crops to be sown the government would issue orders for the water release.
