The State Government is in a dilemma whether to fill up the leftover seats in engineering colleges through the third phase of counselling or handover the seats to the managements for spot admissions.
Nearly one lakh seats are vacant in the convenor quota and some colleges have been demanding that they be opened up for spot admissions. The government too is not keen on the third phase as it involves enormous money and human resources and there is likely to be poor response.
However, spot admissions by the colleges generate some response from students as they can move to the colleges of their wish easily. Some students who have taken admission in the management quota for various reasons would prefer the convenor quota as they would become eligible for fee reimbursement of the State Government. The APSCHE Chairman, P.Jayaprakash Rao has said that a decision would be taken soon after receiving the exact vacant position from the colleges. He said even if spot admissions are allowed colleges have to follow certain norms.
