The State government, which has failed to handle the power sector efficiently, is now bracing itself to pinch the poor and cover up its wrongdoings, TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu alleged here on Saturday.

As part of his ongoing padayatra in the district, he traversed through Devilal thanda, Parvatagiri, Kalleda, Burgumadla and Mecharajupalli before halting on the outskirts of Mecharajupalli.

Interaction with SHGs

He interacted with members of self-help groups at Somaram Cross before starting his day’s walkathon and later addressed gatherings at Parvatagiri and Kalleda villages.

He reminded them that late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had promised to make every woman rich, but instead they were further thrown into problems.

The government had so far burdened people to the tune of Rs.40,000 crore by way of taxes and is still contemplating to hike the power tariff once again.

Hike in power charges

The government was planning to collect Rs.10,000 crore by increasing power charges. However, the TDP has decided to stand by the people and fight against it, Mr. Naidu said.

On the day TDP MLA from Raptadu, Paritala Sunitha met the TDP president at Somaram village and apprised him of the latest developments regarding the case against her son Paritala Sriram and the searches conducted at her residence.
