HYDERABAD: Nava Telangana Party president T. Devender Goud on Monday called on senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan and Janata Dal (U) president Sharad Yadav at New Delhi to seek their support for separate Telangana.
Mr. E. Peddi Reddy, senior Nava Telangana Party leader, accompanying Mr. Goud, told The Hindu over phone that all of them promised to support a bill on statehood for Telangana if it was introduced in Parliament.
Mr. Goud is leading a large delegation from the State in New Delhi to drum up support for separate Telangana. He is scheduled to meet Mr. Advani again on Tuesday since the delegation could not reach New Delhi by the time he called on the latter.
The visitors are also hoping to get United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s appointment on Tuesday. They are also supposed to meet CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat and other national leaders, including Ram Vilas Paswan and Ajit Singh, during the day.
Mr. Peddi Reddy said the delegation would stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar if it did not get an appointment with Ms. Gandhi.
