ONGOLE: Train movement has been hampered for more than three hours in Gudur-Vijayawada section due to derailment of a goods train near here on Wednesday.
The goods train was returning to Visakhapatnam after unloading petroleum products at the bulk depot near Surareddypalem when the accident occurred.
As the goods train was being taken to the loop line near Ongole railway station, one of the empty tankers got derailed at 10.30 am affecting movement of trains on both up and down lines.
While Secunderabad-bound Krishna Express was held up at Surareddypalem, Yernakulam-Patna Express at Singarayakonda, Jan Satabdi Express at Ulavapadu, Jammu Tawi and Coromandel Express at Kavali. Chennai-bound Navjeevan Express and Puri-Tirupati Express were detained at Vetapalem and Chirala respectively.
Railway officials rushed to the spot and took up restoration operations. They restored Vijayawada line by 12.55 pm and Chennai line by 1.30 pm. All trains in this section ran late by 3-5 hours and normalcy could be restored only in the evening.
