The main opposition Telugu Desam Party’s impressive performance in the first phase of the cooperative polls in the district has prompted the ruling Congress party leaders to lay special focus on the second phase of elections slated to be held on February 4.

The TDP swept the polls in Sattupalli and Aswaraopet constituencies. In sharp contrast to the good performance by the Congress party in the first phase of polls at the State level, the ruling party fared badly at the hustings in the district.

The YSRCP has also failed to make much headway in the elections as anticipated by the party cadres.

The left parties CPI, CPI(M) and the CPI (ML-ND) reportedly bagged two PACS each, sources added. Meanwhile, the Minister for Horticulture R Venkat Reddy has reviewed the party's performance in the first phase of polls with the party senior leaders here on Friday.

According to the party sources, Minister for Tribal Welfare P Balaraju, who is the district in-charge Minister, and Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka reportedly held discussions with the party local leaders over the prospects of the party in the second phase of cooperative polls.

The indirect election to the posts of office-bearers of 42 PACS was held on Friday.

According to information reaching here, election to office bearers of 13 PACS has been postponed for Saturday for want of quorum.
