VISAKHAPATNAM: Enthusiastic children from numerous schools in the district participated in the competitions organised by the Gayatri Vidya Parishad MLB Trust School and CMR Shopping Mall ahead of the Children’s Day on Tuesday.
About 1,500 children from 200 schools in the district turned up for the inauguration of the four-day programme being organized to mark the National Education Day in memory of the first Education Minister of the country, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, and the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
District Education Officer in-charge M. Suryanarayana inaugurated the celebration and complimented the enthusiasm of the children.
Industrialist and GVP Vice-President A.S.N. Prasad who presided said competitions in ten events would be organised during the four day.
GVP member and technical expert D. Kameswara Rao, MLB Trust president P. Jaganmohini and social worker K. Ashoka Kumari participated.
Praja Rajyam Party founder Chiranjeevi conveyed his wishes for the success of the celebration.
The response to the competitions conducted was overwhelming. The school premises teemed with hundreds of students.
In Telugu poem recitation competition, 600 students from 100 schools participated.
In the fancy dress competition in the evening, children donned the attire of national leaders, among others.
