It was a splendid sight as the deity of Goddess Padmavati was taken on the celestial ‘Sarvabhoopala Vahanam’ in Tiruchanur on Wednesday, as part of the ongoing Kartheeka Brahmotsavams.
Sarvabhoopala means ‘King of the Universe’ and the vahanam represents combined force of the demi-Gods like Indra, Varuna, Vayu and Agni. Being the consort of Lord Venkateswara, Goddess Padmavathi took a pleasure ride along the four ‘mada’ streets in the form of Sarvabhoopali.
Later, the devotees thronged to witness ‘Swarna Rathotsavam’ festival, wherein the deity was taken around the temple on a dazzling golden chariot.
Evening turned spectacular with the procession of Goddess Padmavathi on her spouse’s favourite ‘Garuda Vahanam’. The ‘golden feet cover’ of Lord Venkateswara was brought to Tiruchanur on this occasion.
According to the temple legend, Garuda appealed to Lord Venkateswara for His divine presence during the Goddess celestial procession on Garuda Vahanam.
The Lord accepts his request and sends His golden feet as a symbolic presence to accompany the procession. Since then, the ‘golden feet cover’ of Lord Venkateswara is used during the procession.
TTD’s Chairman K. Bapi Raju, EO M.G. Gopal, JEO Pola Bhaskar, Tirupati Urban Superintendent of Police S.V. Rajasekhar Babu and others took part.
