Mandal, agriculture officials asked to educate farmers in this regard

  • Drought conditions in many mandals
  • Revenue officials must ensure that farmers get loans in time

GUNTUR: Village federations (Grama Samakhya) will buy the produce from alternative crop to be raised by farmers in Guntur district in the current kharif season and all of them must go in for such crops, District Collector G. Jayalakshmi said on Wednesday.

Asking the Mandal Development Officers, Mandal Revenue Officers and Agriculture Officers to suggest alternative crop to farmers in each mandal depending on the local soil conditions, she observed that drought conditions were prevailing in many mandals of the district. Lack of rain during the past three months had delaying sowing operations in paddy and cotton.

During a review meeting, she said that instead of going in for traditional crops alternatives Irrigated Dry crops were being suggested so that yield did not come down and farmers got enough from the sale.

In the Narsaraopet Revenue Division water must be ensured to all farmers even in tail end areas under Thangedu Major canal and inputs made available, she told Irrigation and Agriculture department officials.

She asked revenue officials to coordinate with bank officials to ensure all farmers received crop loans in the current season by the time they began sowing/ re-transplantation.

The State Government was releasing Rs. 3 crores every month for payment of all kinds of pensions and payment to beneficiaries must be ensured with compliance report sent to the District Rural Development Agency Project Director.
