Spurred by the successful heart transplant to a 58-year-old man from Batlaguduru near Kandukur in Prakasam district, the Chennai-based Global Hospitals is determined to do more organ transplants in the future, its vice-president V. Bhaskar Reddy said on Wednesday.

Producing the 58-year-old Narayanan, who has fully recovered after a heart transplant, he told a press conference here that ‘Narayanan’s recovery has given us a boost.

We will perform more heart and lung transplants”, he said along with doctor Govini Balasubramaniam, Senior consultant Cardiac surgeon and Lung transplant pioneer at Global Hospitals Chennai.

“It is a new lease of life for me. I am able to walk miles after the transplant”, said the patient.

Dr. Balasubramaniam said with medical follow-up on a regular basis, Narayanan could lead a normal life. Acute rejection and infections are some the problems such patient encountered after the transplant, he added.
