The energy conservation project of students of Gitam International School titled ‘Usage of energy in festivals - Energy and society’ has been selected for the 21st National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) to be held at Rajahmundry on December 1 and 2.

The project focuses on exploring, harnessing and conservation of different forms of energy and its usage in Tirupati. Conducting surveys and interacting with electricity officials, the students M. Bhavya Sree, V.T. Tejaswani, S. Siva Harshita and S. Sonia Nazmi emphasised on the need for including alternate energy resources . Comparing the electricity bills during the festival seasons, where the electrical equipments like lights and sound systems are indiscriminately used till early hours, they felt that conservation plays an important role in power management. The students further compared past and present trends in festive celebrations and conveyed their suggestions to power officials. They also visited the city’s dump yard to explore the options for power generation from bio-degradable waste. School principal Sridevi Kinnera and project guide G. Jyothi Naidu congratulated students.
