Aim is to take up R&D activities in the area of ship repairs
GITAM University and Marine Corporation of India (MCI) have decided to establish a knowledge base to take up R&D activities in the area of ship repairs.
Chairman and Managing Director of MCI D.S. Anand held consultations with GITAM University Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam and other officials on the joint programme on Tuesday. The R&D would be particularly in the technological aspects of dynamic balancing of auxiliary machinery, pneumatic systems, etc.
Mr. Anand said MCI would provide consultancy projects from various units involved in ship repairs in the technological aspects of dynamic balancing of rotors, turbochargers, impellers, and propellers. MIC would provide industrial training to students of GITAM, he added.
Prof. Subramanyam explained the university's well-established Industrial Research and Development Unit, which was undertaking various sponsored research projects. It had a special wing to offer consultancy to the industry, he said. GITAM has 75 research projects on hand funded by organisations such as BARC, HPCL. Memoranda of Understanding with Intel group, Eriksson India, TCS and IBM have been reached.
Registrar M. Potha Raju, Institute of Technology Vice-Principal M.R.S. Satyanarayana, and HoD of Mechanical Engineering S. Kamaluddin participated in the discussions.
