A girl student was reportedly kidnapped for ransom and released unharmed after a few hours.
Mounika Devi of Rajahmundry is doing her I year BDS at GITAM Dental College. She went to her native place at Rajahmundry for Diwali and returned by bus on Thursday. She was whisked away by some unidentified persons in a car after she alighted at the Dwaraka Bus Station (RTC Complex) at 5.30 p.m.
The girl managed to call her parents, who in turn called her grandfather who was living in the city. Her grandfather lodged a complaint with the Two Town Police around 7.30 p.m. Two Town Inspector Teku Mohan Rao immediately informed the matter to the higher-ups and alerted all police stations in the city. A manhunt was launched to trace the girl. Around 9.45 p.m., she informed her parents that her abductors had left her at the RTC Complex area.
Two Town Police are investigating the case.
A youth was arrested by the Cyber Crime Police on Thursday for his alleged involvement in an online fraud.
The accused, V. Naga Sai Kiran, 25, had worked with various private insurance companies during the last four years. He noted down the card and PIN number of a customer clandestinely. He later defrauded the gullible customer, P. Ganesh, by withdrawing a total of Rs.51,900 from his account online from an Internet café at Siripuram during the last three months, according to Inspector Ch. Penta Rao.
The accused was arrested while he was trying to flee from his house at Mindi. The amount was recovered from his residence.
