HYDERABAD: A six-month-old girl was kidnapped by an unidentified woman from the outpatient block of Nayapul Maternity Hospital at Charminar on Wednesday afternoon.

The police said G. Indu of Gowlipura came to the hospital to administer monthly vaccine to her daughter Trinayani at 10 a.m. After an hour, Indu requested a woman, who was standing in a queue along with her, to take care of the child and went to attend nature's call. When she returned, Indu found that the woman was missing along with her daughter.

"The woman aged between 35 and 40 introduced herself politely and told me that she came to the hospital with her daughter who was pregnant. I gave my baby to the woman, as she was very friendly. She disappeared with the baby within a few seconds," the police said, quoting Indu.

Charminar Inspector P. R. Kosal Ram said a kidnap case under Section 363 of IPC was registered and launched a hunt to nab the woman. "We are trying to prepare a portrait of the woman based on the descriptive features given by Indu," the Inspector said.

This is the fourth incident reported in the hospital in the last four years. Two women were arrested by the Charminar police on charges of trying to escape with a newborn baby in 2004. A staff nurse caught the women and handed them over to the police.
