HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court headed by Chief Justice Anil Ramesh Dave on Thursday was informed by the State government that the notification for the elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will not be issued till July 23.
This information was given pursuant to the query posed by the Bench while adjourning the cases filed complaining against the reservations, etc., for the GHMC wards. Several writ petitions were filed in the court in the last one week. One petitioner complained that the reservation for the SC and ST groups was less than the population of these groups.
Others complained about the identification of the wards for the various groups. One petitioner pointed out that the voters’ number in some wards was very high and in some wards the number was low.
The Bench wanted to hear all of them and adjourned the cases to next Thursday and wanted the Advocate General to indicate the likely date of notification.
The Bench reminded that once the notification issued, there is bar to adjudicate the cases. Later the Bench was informed that the notification was not being issued till 23 July.
