HYDERABAD: The preparation for the ensuing polls to the GHMC seemed to have started on a wrong note for the ruling party.

Friday’s review meeting called by Chief Minsiter Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy with the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagendar, where the possibility of holding the polls to the GHMC came up for discussion, left a discordant note in the GHCC, as none of the elected representatives were invited to the meeting.

While Sanathnagar legislator M. Sashidhar Reddy openly expressed displeasure at not being invited to a meeting which reportedly took an important decision of holding GHMC polls, other legislators P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy (Khairatabad), Malreddy Ranga Reddy (Malakpet), T. Manemma Anjaiah (Mushirabad) and Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav chose not to react .

Though Mr. Sashidhar Reddy is not among the favourites of Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy, a decision on GHMC polls has raised many an eyebrow. “We expected that we would be consulted when the GHMC polls issue is to be discussed”, was how Mr. Sashidhar Reddy reacted, scotching reports that he had boycotted the Friday meeting. “I was not invited to the meeting”, he said.

Mr. Nagendar’s report on the prospects of the party candidates is also becoming a bone of contention on a different plane.

The GHCC chief had formed omnibus observers’ committees in February to tour all the 150 wards to study how the welfare schemes were being publicised and also to suggest candidates for all the wards. “How can the committees suggest names without consulting the party MLAs in the city,” Mr. Reddy questioned.
