New MCH pool at Sanathnagar likely to be ready by March-end

  • MCH maintains four swimming pools in city
  • Pools at clubs and resorts also being readied

HYDERABAD: With the approaching summer, there is good news for those eager to beat the heat by making a big splash in the swimming pool.

The new swimming pool of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) at Sanathnagar is likely to become operational by March-end.

The MCH maintains four swimming pools in the twin cities for general public at Secunderabad, Ameerpet, Vijayanagar Colony and Moghulpura, where the demand reaches the peak during summer.

While the pools are being cleaned ahead of the busy summer, the new facility at Sanathnagar, officials say, will ease crowding at others pools.

"All the pools are equipped with facilities like showers and separate changing rooms for men and women.

Students can use the pool at a monthly fee of Rs. 200, while general public is charged at Rs. 400. The slot is only for an hour," says Umesh, coach, Secunderabad swimming pool.

However, students are required to produce a bonafide certificate from their school or college, along with two photographs and a medical certificate.

The timings for pools maintained by MCH are 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The other swimming pools of the city, including the oldest one run by Hanuman Vyayamshala at Sultan Bazar and a string of clubs, resorts and star hotels are also gearing up for the big splash.

Secunderabad Club, which has pools open only for its members on a monthly fee of Rs.150, decided not allow guests between March 1 and July 31.

Ditto with star hotels like Taj Krishna and Mariott, which discontinued the practice of giving membership to outsiders to use the swimming pool.

At Taj Banjara, they can avail of the pool facility on a yearly fee of Rs. 15,000 for individuals and Rs. 20,000 for couple. Timing of the pool is all-day long from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The hotel also provides a coach during the months of April and May.

Taj Deccan on the other hand has a complete package for the health club, which includes the pool facility too.
