MACHILIPATNAM: Krishna district Collector N. Sridhar on Friday called upon the officials of various departments to get ready to conduct the general elections.
Addressing a meeting with the officials of revenue, police and excise departments here, Mr. Sridhar underscored the need for compiling handbooks with the details of each Assembly constituency. He said 3,400 polling stations were identified in the district and 8,000 electronic voting machines were available for the elections.
He advised the officials to send proposals for setting up an additional polling booth at the polling stations where the number of voters was more than 1,500. He said electoral rolls published on January 22 should be considered as mother rolls and the supplements released later with additions and deletions as supplementary rolls.
Calling upon the officials to complete the process of distributing photo identity cards by March 10, Mr. Sridhar said that over 16 lakh cards were in the making and there was a need to make another 8 lakh cards.
