“Giri Shops” will be set up under the aegis of the Girijan Cooperative Corporation in some select areas in the agency to ensure supply of essential commodities of good quality to the tribal people, said G. Veerapandian, Project Officer, Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Bhadrachalam. Addressing “Giri Dharbar”, a grievance redressal meeting, at a shandy (weekly market) in Chintur mandal headquarters on Wednesday, he said the proposed network of “Giri Shops” will not only ensure provision of quality commodities to the tribal people but also check sale of spurious and inferior quality commodities in the tribal areas.

DR depots

As many as 51 new Domestic Requirement (DR) depots have been sanctioned to strengthen the GCC services for the benefit of the tribal people living in the remote pockets of the agency, he said. Tribal people from far off places participated in the ‘dharbar’ and submitted applications for sanction of ration cards, pattas under the ROFR Act, house sites and other facilities.
