The renovated burial ground with the first of its kind gas-based cremation facility in the city is going to open for the public utility from March 29.
Once resembled a desolate tract, the burial ground spread in an extent of eight acres has now turned into a beautiful greenbelt with modern facilities that eases the performance of the last rites.
Thanks to the initiative taken by the Kakinada Rotary – Burial Ground Development and Maintenance Trust, a complete facelift has been given to the Vijjapureddy Municipal Corporation burial ground ‘Layasthanam’ near the APSRTC Complex in the heart of the city with a sum of Rs. 1.75 crore.
Besides levelling the site and developing greenery, restrooms, washrooms, showers and facilities for performing the traditional rituals have been arranged on the premises.
In addition to the electric crematorium, the gas-based facility has been arranged for the first time in the State.
Industrialist from Coimbatore C.V. Raju on behalf of the Grand Lodge of India has come forward with a contribution of Rs. 50 lakh for arranging the gas-based facility.
