VISAKHAPATNAM: Gandi Babji, who has kept up pressure on the Congress party leadership and even filed his nomination for the Pendurthy Assembly constituency, has his way.

Mr. Babji has reportedly met party top leaders and the Chief Minister on Sunday who approved a change in the party’s nominee from Pendurthy, it was learnt. Commercial Taxes Minister Konathala Ramakrishna also insisted on accommodating Mr. Babji, known to be his close follower, by re-nominating him from Pendurthy. Monday is the last day for filing nominations.

Mr. Babji now replaces fresher Thota Vijayalakshmi who had been named by the party as the candidate from Pendurthy.

The Parawada Assembly constituency represented by Mr. Babji, a former DCC president, in the Assembly ceased to exist following delimitation.

Expecting a nomination from Pendurthy, he had conducted a padyatra and prepared the ground for contesting.

His followers made angry demonstrations on the day the list was announced by the party leadership. Mr.Babji has continued his campaign and filed nomination from Pendurthy.
