Kalyanotsavam of Sri Venkateswara Swamy with Sridevi and Bhoodevi was performed by Vedic pundits with religious fervour and gaiety in the historic Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy temple at Devunikadapa on Thursday.

As many as 60 couples entered wedlock on the temple premises on the auspicious Sravana nakshtram, the birth star of the Lord and had darshan of the presiding deities. They were blessed by the Vedic pundits.

Vedic pundits Matcha Venkata Seshacharyulu and M. Saikrishna and S. Vijay performed punyahavachanam, thirumanjanam, kalyanam and santhi homam for global peace. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Assistant Executive Officer Subramanyam, temple inspector Easwar Reddy and large number of devotees participated in the rituals.

The kalyanotsavam was marred by non-supply of flowers by the contractor Karunakar on the special occasion. TTD AEO Subramanyam expressed ire at the contractor’s negligence and said he would report his laxity to the TTD authorities.

Supply of flowers

The contractor failed to supply flowers for the kalyanam and during the recent Theppotsavams and the priests managed to procure some flowers in a hurry for the presiding deities, the AEO lamented.

Devotees resented the trend and demanded cancellation of the flower supply tender awarded and replacement of the contractor to avoid recurrence of such fallacies.
