With the super cyclone Lehar that is expected to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam on Thursday noon, the district administration is fully geared up to meet any eventuality.
Joint Collector P.A. Sobha on Wednesday deployed district-level officials to monitor the situation in the sensitive Pathivada, Kollayavalasa, Chintapalli, Konada, Chepalakancheru, and Kongavanipalem panchayats and their hamlets in Bhogapuram and Poosapatirega mandals, the coastal mandals in the district, and take preventive measures.
In addition to district officials, she directed tehsildars and mandal special officers to remain in their place of posting. She asked Assistant Director (Fisheries) to keep 30 swimmers ready, 10 each in both the revenue divisions and the remaining as reserve.
She appealed to fishermen not to venture into the sea and move to safer places. She asked officials to seek assistance of the local people, NGOs, and pharma companies in Poosapatirega mandal.
Sigh of relief
The district administration on Wednesday heaved a sigh of relief as the cyclone weakened. Weather was completely clear even in the coastal areas.
However, Collector Saurabh Gaur directed officials to stay in their designated places as a precautionary measure.
Rescue teams and representatives of various non-governmental organisations would lend their support to the officials in the coastal areas as and when needed.
