The District Level Committee on fresh water aquaculture on Thursday suggested imposition of more stringent regulations by the State government to streamline fresh water aquaculture.
Chairing the meeting, cistrict Collector G.S.R.K.R.Vijaykumar directed the fisheries officials to issue notices to fresh water aquaculturists to regularise their existing aquaculture ponds within three months. No person should carry on fresh water aquaculture without registration in future, explained DLC convenor and Fisheries Assistant Director G. Venkata Rao, while giving the salient features of the G.O. Ms.NO.7 issued by the government.
Resolutions were adopted to urge the government to allow aquaculture ponds 50 metres away from temples and drinking water ponds from the 10 metre stipulated in the G.O.
Farmers’ representative at the DLC B.Lakshminarayana opined that such ponds could be allowed at least 10 metres away from cultivable lands.
