`Municipal Commissioner agrees to sort out site issue'

Kakinada: The widening of the existing road between the Balaji tank centre to Ambedkar statue centre, to a stretch of nearly one km to a four-lane road at a cost of Rs. 2 crores is being expedited so as to complete it at least by year-end. The work execution was originally scheduled for completion by June but because of the delay in handing over the site the schedule was upset.

Deputy Executive Engineer of the Roads and Buildings department CSN Murthy said the new commissioner of the Municipal Corporation had responded to the problem positively and promised to hand over the site at some stretches without further delay.

Cost escalation

Mr. Murthy admitted that the delay had resulted in cost escalation, which might be around 5 per cent. Already Rs. 20 lakhs had been spent on widening of road at some stretches and another Rs. 20 lakhs on drains formation. On the construction of compound wall on both sides of the road, he said, Rs. 25 lakhs was spent.

Mr. Murthy said the new Commissioner had promised to settle the dispute over the site with the Radhasomi Satsang and also with the drivers union.

He said road-widening now being expedited and black topping would be taken up in November so as to complete the same by year-end.
